Milky Mist Fact Sheet

Milky Mist began in 1985 as a modest milk trading operation in Tamil Nadu has evolved into a technology-driven manufacturer of value-added dairy and convenience foods.

Headquartered in Perundurai, Erode district, the company processes milk from over 60,000–70,000 farmers across Tamil Nadu and parts of Karnataka, channeling it into high-quality, consumer-friendly products.

The company’s state-of-the-art 55-acre mega plant in Perundurai (commissioned around 2018–2020) processes up to 1–1.5 million litres of milk per day. This facility supports one of India’s largest single-location paneer productions (around 60 tonnes/day, with plans to scale higher).

Core Product Portfolio (400+ SKUs)

Milky Mist operates in the following food categories:
  1. Paneer: Flagship product — soft, creamy, hygienically packed in multilayer thermoforming for extended freshness. Ideal for vegetarian curries and grills. (High protein, excellent calcium source; their automation ensures uniform texture without the variability common in artisanal versions.)
  2. Cheese: Wide range including Mozzarella, Cheddar, Processed, Gouda, and cream cheese. Excellent melting properties and calcium/protein delivery for pizzas, snacks, and fusion dishes.
  3. Curd & Yogurts: Fresh curd, fruit yogurts, Greek Yogurt (probiotic-rich, strained for higher protein), and Skyr. Recent launches include Honey & Fig Greek Yogurt and flavored options like Blueberry, Mango, Peach.
  4. Butter, Ghee & Cream: Pure, smooth textures that enhance flavor in cooking and baking. Ghee offers stability and rich aroma from traditional clarification processes.
  5. UHT & Ready-to-Drink: Milk, cream, milkshakes (e.g., Coffee, Butterscotch), buttermilk, lassi — long shelf life without refrigeration until opened, great for convenience while retaining nutritional profile.
  6. Desserts & Sweets: Shrikhand, Payasam, Rasgulla, Gulab Jamun, Mishti Doi — traditional indulgence with consistent quality.
  7. Innovations: Ice creams, Capella chocolates, SmartChef ready-to-cook/frozen items (e.g., Paneer Fingers, Dahi Tikki, pizzas), Misty Lite fat spreads, and Asal half-cooked chapatis.

Value-added products like Greek Yogurt and Skyr involve straining or specific fermentation that concentrates protein while reducing lactose — appealing for health-conscious consumers seeking satiety and gut benefits from live cultures.

UHT processing (ultra-high temperature) inactivates spores for shelf stability with minimal flavor impact when done right. Paneer’s heat-acid coagulation creates a unique non-melting protein matrix perfect for Indian cooking.
