Targeting Gen Z, who make up over a quarter of the population, the Belgian brand has begun local production in partnership with Mondelez, the maker of Cadbury chocolates and Oreo cookies.
Producing locally will make Biscoff more affordable, with small packs priced at Rs 10, mid-sized at Rs 80, and large packs at Rs 110.
Under their deal, Mondelez India will manufacture Biscoff at its Rajasthan plant through a third-party producer, while also handling marketing and distribution. The companies also plan to create co-branded chocolate products for global markets and launch Biscoff ice creams in Europe.
For the nearly 100-year old Lotus Bakeries, whose portfolio includes Bear, Trek, and Peter’s Yard, Biscoff generates over half of its revenue.
